Lightning Research
The intensity and frequency of lightning in Florida. Lightning
research is very active at Camp Blanding which is 50 miles north of
Tampa. The test site was constructed and funded by a joint effort
between Florida Power Corporation and the Electric Power research
Institute and is operated by the University of Florida. This
association called the ICLRT was formed in October of 1994. The
center occupies about 100 acres.
